DOING GOODS – ETHICAL TRADING POLICY / CODE OF CONDUCT

Introduction
The Doing Goods Ethical Code sets out the standards of employment and working conditions for our Doing Goods workshop in India. It is based on the Ethical Trading Initiative Base Code. Doing Goods applies a “zero tolerance” approach to modern slavery.

We believe that all products sold by Doing Goods should be produced under humane working conditions and that all workers are to be treated with dignity, respect and fairness.

Furthermore we expect,

1. Employment is freely chosen
There is no forced, bonded or involuntary prison labor and workers are free to leave their employer after reasonable notice.

2. Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining are respected Workers have the right to join or form trade unions and the employer adopts an open attitude towards the activities of trade unions.

3. Working conditions are safe and hygienic
A safe and hygienic working environment shall be provided and adequate steps shall be taken to prevent accidents and injuries. Access to toilet facilities and potable water shall be provided.

4. Child labour shall not be used
Children (minimum working age should not be less than the age for completing compulsory schooling and in no event less than 15) and young persons under 18 shall not be employed at night or in hazardous conditions.

5. Living wages are paid
Wages and benefits outside the European Union paid for a standard working week meet, at a minimum, national legal standards or industry benchmark standards, whichever is higher. All workers shall be fully provided with written and understandable information about their employment conditions in respect to wages before they enter employment. Deductions from wages shall not be permitted without the expressed permission of the worker concerned, as far as is reasonably practicable, that all other parties involved, who are directly or indirectly involved in the provision of goods and/or services to comply with the standards set out under the ETI Base code.

6. Working hours are not excessive
Working hours must comply with national laws or collective agreements.

7. No discrimination is practiced
There is no discrimination in hiring, compensation, access to training, promotion, termination or retirement based on race, caste, national origin, religion, age, disability, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, union membership or political affiliation.

8. Regular employment is provided
Work performed must be on the basis of recognized employment relationship established through national law and practice.

9. No harsh or inhumane treatment is allowed
Physical abuse or discipline, the threat of physical abuse, sexual or other harassment and verbal abuse or other forms of intimidation shall be prohibited.

We visit the Doing Goods workshop periodically as well as other parties involved. All our partnerships are based on trust, transparency and co-operation. We will keep investing in these relations and stay true to our values.
