We are Doing Goods, your home sweet home for all those imperfect and fun homeware items. We are a veritable treasure trove of quirky curiosities and tantalizing textiles. The Doing Goods spirit is young and adventurous; the heart is full of love and laughs, our minds are free yet focused.
We love being inspired by curiosities we stumble upon half a world away and using that inspiration to create our own fun-filled collection. We wish to bring a little happiness and cheer to people’s lives near and far. As we grow this simple mission remains at the heart of all we do.
We can travel only so far and be inspired only so much. There comes a point when we must roll up our sleeves and get to work. Thankfully – while we doodle, and design at our headquarters in the Netherlands – we can rely on a great team of craftspeople in India. And thanks also to some hard graft and soft hearts the future is bright and full of promise.
And finally learn more about …
Our loves, our mission
At Doing Goods we love being inspired by curiosities we stumble upon half a world away and using that inspiration to create our own fun-filled collection. We wish to bring a little happiness and cheer to the lives of those we work with and the people that buy our creations. We believe we can achieve this by embracing the free whilst still remaining focused and enjoying each minute, without forgetting the long-term. This balance works well for us, keeps us happy and light-hearted. It allows us to create soulful products that not only find their way into people’s homes but also their hearts.
All this makes Doing Goods a treasure trove of quirky curiosities and tantalizing textiles. A treasure chest filled to the brim with unique homeware items that are wabi sabi: imperfect things that have their own unique stories.
Our story, our team
From our start back in 2010 we’ve always been drawn to the imperfect, the bubbly, quirky and the one-offs: The objects of our infatuations are those objects affected by the sands of time. As a team we’ve grown but haven’t grown up. So yes, we still jump and dance when we find curiosities that tickle us to bits. Once home from a world tour we archive the found trinkets or put them on display – each a unique item with its own story. They inspire us when designing our own exclusive collections. Our travels take us to many wonderful places where we meet equally wonderful people. This keeps us fresh and young at heart. We embrace chance-meetings and coincidence, but plan our next move sincerely. Our wish is to stick around for many more years, so planning is essential. It’s this combination of chance and planning that resulted in our workshop in India. A great example of how our process is the combined sum of our beliefs, our plans and the random stuff that life sometimes throws at us.
Where we make what we make
At Doing Goods we make good on the promise of working respectfully in and with the communities we visit. We do not believe that we can change the world. We are, however, convinced that we can improve people’s lives with honesty, authenticity and fair play. We strive to do this a step, day and project at a time. A few years ago we started dealing with a family business in India. Soon we were making plans to build a workshop together. It was a very conscious decision lead by our belief that local is always best in the long run. We also knew we needed to step up and make it a special place. As we built the shop brick by hand-baked brick, everyone’s spirit rose. The future was bright and full of promise. Thanks to a collective effort the promises were fulfilled. Now, a handful of years later, the team in India is truly up and running. They are thriving in their workshop and are a fully-fledged member of the Doing Goods family.
The workshop is a wonderful success. And it’s pink, which is always a good thing … and offers the team a comfortable and safe space to craft and produce our unique collections. In addition to a pleasant workshop, we of course pay honest wages and sufficient breaks and time off. If they’re happy, we’re happy and vice versa. This arrangement – which by the way for us is just common sense and the only way to run a business – keeps everything and everyone fresh and bubbly. It’s just what we need at Doing Goods to offer the best we can. We’re very grateful to have the opportunity to work on this with a wonderful family and their team and to get the chance to give something back to a community that has given so much to us.
